Shoulders squared ~ heads held high
they marched in cadence there . . .
parade~dress uniforms they wore
clean~shaven with short hair ~

A flag~draped coffin held aloft
borne with such pride and pain . . .
last farewells for this brave one
not be seen on earth again ~

Their fallen Marine brother
close as any friend could be . . .
would lie beneath his country's soil
his life a courageous tapestry ~

A deep hush falls upon the crowd
THE FLAG, Marines begin to fold . . .
precision ~ order ~ honouring one
whose life was dearer to them than gold ~

Wafting softly on the wind
is heard the bugler's sound . . .
poignant, resonant taps he blows
no dry eyes can be found ~

Red, white and blue ~ OLD GLORY
stained with his parents tears . . .
they'd cling to precious memories
of him ~ for years & years & years ~

Medals ~ keep~sakes ~ pictures
with all his letters home . . .
would find a place of honour
a memorial to their son ~

E'er to be remembered for
his patriot~heart ~ his bravery . . .
THE FLAG would capture every breeze
fore'er hold his precious memory!
