I am just a soldier, Father
committed to my task...
hear the cries of family's
hearts, this is what I ask ~

Keep them in your loving
arms, each and every day ...
provide for everything they need
while I'm so far away ~

Lord, we want to thank you,
my buddies and my friends ...
for your constant, sure protection
until this ole' war ends ~

We've trained our bodies and
our minds to ready for the fray ...
and, Lord, it's YOU we're counting
on to hear each prayer we pray ~

Help us be brave, oh, dear Lord
please keep from us all fear ...
let our aim be accurate
our mission crystal clear ~

Keep our ammunition dry
our trigger fingers steady ...
our country's freedom is at stake
Oh, Lord, help us be ready ~

Some of us may not come home
Lord ~ freedom's price is high ...
NO ONE knows this better 'cause
You gave Your own Son to die ~

Take them Home to Glory, Lord
as "Taps", through tears, we hear ...
WE SHALL NE'ER FORGET THEM
the price they paid, so dear ~

Please hear this soldier's prayer
dear Lord, it's YOU I'm counting on ...
forgive my sins and keep me true,
I ask in Jesus' name, Your Son !
