Father's Day was fast approaching
she didn't have much time . . .
what could she give her daddy
when she didn't have a dime? ~

The piggy bank she saved in
felt so lonely on the shelf . . .
had heard no "clink" of coins
felt forlorn as she, herself ~

She dug in drawers & pockets
that special place her trinkets lay . . .
'twas empty of cash or coin
for buying a gift for Father's Day ~

Then her young mind remembered
what her daddy ALWAYS said . . .
when asked what gift would please him
an idea popped into her head ~

Quickly she gathered crayons
construction paper would have to do . . .
her childish scrawl began with words
"Dear daddy ~ I LUV U" ~

The lines were far from perfect
but the message crystal clear . . .
"I wudnt want any other daddy
U R the BEST" ~ smeared by a tear ~

"FOR DADDY" the envelope read
when he opened it ~ his face aglow . . .
she saw the tears roll down his cheeks
as he saw many Xs and one BIG O ~

"Member what you told me, daddy"
her tiny voice gave his heart a tug . . .
smilin' through the tears she heard
"PERFECT GIFT ~ A PRINCESS~HUG":-)
