In horror, yes, and disbelief
our eyes beheld another tragedy ...
Columbia shattered with the dream
Oh ~ who can solve this mystery ~

In the twinkling of an eye
vanished in the vapor trail . . .
seven dear, brave astronauts
not one left to tell the tale ~

Whose treasur'd, hard~won secrets
gleaned from heavenly sphere . . .
smolder now in fiery grave
muddled, scattered and unclear ~

Now two nations heart to heart
sadly share the bread of sorrow . . .
questions begging for an answer
stricken families face unsure tomorrow ~

Candles once again alight
floral crosses here and there . . .
sympathies expressed with love
millions kneel in heartfelt prayer ~

Holy Father, we entreat You
'neath loved wings, oh, now enfold . . .
comfort ~ kiss away each tear
'pon broken hearts Paint Mercy, Gold !
